Not to change the subject, but perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here. When you're busy preparing, you have to be realistic, very realistic, about your needs.

The mother had a collection of firearms to protect herself and her family. She also had a 20-year-old son who she knew was severely unstable. (A year ago, he was burning himself with a cigarette lighter. I'd say that's a pretty good indication that he's mentally unstable.) Yet, she didn't think it would be a good idea to keep her firearms and ammunition locked up in a safe, out of the reach of her mentally unstable son.

It's hard to be objective when it comes to your own loved ones. But if you're making preparations and you're not taking into account a family member with Alzheimer's, or who needs medication on a regular basis, you're not really preparing for anything.
