The best advice I have given and practiced is that if you get involved with some people then see swastikas, head in the other direction because you are getting set up.
I have met some of the ex-con skinheads who now give the same exact advice, in fact among them the swastika tatoos now mean absolutely nothing since any dickhead can put ink on his skin, read some literature and claim to be in something, but even worse when someone starts leading someone like that down the primrose path of doing more prison time.
I met a relatively famous local skinhead by the name of Kyle Brewster and then later did some research on his original case (I think he is now doing life since his parole was revoked). The setup his people went through was very sophisticated, up to the point that nobody figured it out until years later.
Absent the setup and extremely deep infiltration of their group, the original case that most of his people have been doing prison time for would have been a fight related manslaughter case. Some of the people involved with the prosecution even still hold celebratory reenactments of the case periodically at the federal courthouse when the original case was billed as a state case.
Morris Dees probably does control the Neo-Nazi movement more than any single other white supremacist leader outside of maybe David Duke.
