Due to the geology in that area, an earthquake is much more devastating than one on the west coast. An earthquake like the one we had in 1811 would wipe out half of the State of Tenn. as well as several other states. Estimates are that the death toll will be in the millions.
Wow, I was unaware of that fault.... It looks like it has a history of "Burst" quakes for the lack of better terms. It seems to hit with massively large EQ's and hits several times in the period of a month. And it is over due, the area's around it I would imagine are not built like the structures of the left coast.
