It is loosely based on the Savvysurvivor.com concepts of the survival arsenal and the former publisher of that site was consulted by the show producers this last year. He could not be on the show due to legal issues but recommended Steve from SafearmsReview to be on there.

That guy from savvysurvivor.com, who knows what really happened to him. I heard he got out of prison all pissed off and resurfaces from time to time with those freaky anti-government militia types...

The show producers were in contact up to the point that show scripting started, then broke off contact until the announcement came out that the show will air in a few days.
