The flag of the People\'s Republic of China will fly over San Leandro, California. ...On Monday, the council voted 4-3 to fly the flag on October 1st, China’s National Day. The Chinese Consulate has said they might stop by to visit on that day.
Councilmember Benny Lee, who made the proposal, said flying the flag would help attract Chinese investors.
“The thing is, if we close our doors, basically that closes our opportunities to influence with them,” Lee told KPIX 5. “This partnership allows us to grow much quicker.” (...) Note to Councilmember Benny Lee: If you want to attract investors to San Leandro, try instituting policies that promote economic freedom. It works. Just ask the Chinese and the Russians. They used to have United Nations signs on the national forest around here but they didn't last a week. The correct term for those Gooks is Chi-Coms.

In a rare act of sanity, the mayor of San Leandro has suspended the city council decision to fly the Chinese flag . Good for him. ...On Thursday, Mayor Stephen Cassidy announced he would overrule the council’s vote, taking advantage of a rarely used city ordinance which gives the mayor 72 hours to toss out a city council vote.
“We won’t actually be flying the flag of China on October 1st,” Cassidy told KPIX 5.
Cassidy said in the aftermath of the vote, his office received roughly 75 telephone calls and emails per day, mostly opposing the decision to fly the flag.... Did you notice that? Sometimes your phone calls and emails actually do work! Onward and upward, airforce
