It's sort of ironic seeing someone from the New York Times Magazine describe you as being from "the dark side."

Overall, the article was better than I expected, considering the source. We're making progress, and this article will help.

I can't believe how racist the NYTimes and their reporters are.....going out of their way to find a whites-only Appleseed shoot.

The wife and I have been to three of them, and NONE of them have been whites-only. Including in Montana and Wyoming, which are not states with large numbers of non-whites (except for Native Indians).

Just amazing that the editors allow such blatant racism to go on. But, for the racist NYTimes, it's amazingly balanced.

As far as Appleseed training, Freds doing a valuable thing.

Well, it COULD have been worse I suppose, but the tone of the article is enough to make the NYT's typical audience shit themselves in fear of flyover country.

Oh and "Fred" Daily is a backstabbing lying hypocrite-and a fed snitch.

The entire article stinks. It's nothing more than a typical smear job intended to scare their target audience into demanding more gun control.

They used Mr. Faire as their scapegoat to demonize the Appleseed program. They meant to portray all shooters as a bunch of foaming at the mouth lunatics just itching to go on a killing spree.


As for Fred...

He's a joke and a back stabbing peace of shit. He claims to teach revolutionary war history and then calls the very organization that fought the war "the dark side". He teaches people to shoot and then tells them that they must never put their training to use. He thinks we can stop tyranny with the ballot box alone; proving he has learned nothing from history.

And, sadly he will throw his trainers under the bus just to protect the continued existence of his precious program...principles do not matter.

I don't know how you can post 10 orders that will not be obeyed, mean it, and avoid confrontation.

I know this is a dissenting opinion, but...

I think despite the shortcomings of some of the people mentioned, I think that Appleseed is overall of great benefit to the whole Liberty movement thus far. I would almost be willing to bet that those guys have similar or identical opinions to those of us here, but will not share them until the time is right. Those people have an advantage of being seen as more moderate players in this big "game," which may be important later on. Why else does Fred still sell Boston's Gun Bible, Patriots, and "Battlin' the UN" on his website?

What is the real story behind that whole section of the article on Mr. James Faire? It sounded like there was a huge amount of information missing from that. I especially noticed how the first paragraph mentioning moving off the X, something taught in basically every CCW course, was skewed into some sort of craziness.

I like the program of teaching history heritage tradition and marksmanship as well, enough to risk everything to support it, only problem that what it cost me financially/legally and the same happens to any other volunteer that has the misfortune of being targeted, the basic idea is great and there are many that continue to support it just beware that the admin of AppleSeed will throw you under the bus should any trouble arise.

The model has some serious flaws, in that everything must be done exactly the same way with an all volunteer cadre no compensation or encouragement other than a scolding of how the instructors should do better. that part is unAmerican.

I liked the idea, too. As Jeff Cooper used to say, the moment you pick up a rifle, your status changes from subject to citizen. Teaching marksmanship and history is a good thing. Now, if Fred had the courage of his convictions...
