Because oil prices are set by a cartel called OPEC and various multi-billion dollar corporations who are friends with the presidential candidates. It also puts people in a happier mood wherein they are more inclined to travel, and is usually around holiday times or election seasons.
This is a trend we've seen before; dip 25 or 30 cents before shooting back up 75 cents. This is just a much bigger dip to make people all that much happier. Don't worry, it WILL shoot back up.

Crude prices are mostly ruled by investers, OPEC's last attempt to raise prices by cutting production didn't work. Demand has actually went down, the American consumer did not want to pay $4

Here is the definition of deflation from investopedia: A general decline in prices, often caused by a reduction in the supply of money or credit. Deflation can be caused also by a decrease in government, personal or investment spending. The opposite of inflation, deflation has the side effect of increased unemployment since there is a lower level of demand in the economy, which can lead to an economic depression.
Declining prices, if they persist, generally create a vicious spiral of negatives such as falling profits, closing factories, shrinking employment and incomes, and increasing defaults on loans by companies and individuals. To counter deflation, the Federal Reserve (the Fed) can use monetary policy to increase the money supply and deliberately induce rising prices, causing inflation. Rising prices provide an essential lubricant for any sustained recovery because businesses increase profits and take some of the depressive pressures off wages and debtors of every kind.Sound familiar?

Set back at least 2 five gallon cans per vehicle. Keep all vehicle tanks topped off. Fill a 55 gallon drum and treat with stabilizer. All fuels are like gold and ammo...priceless.

think the bank would give a "stocking up on fuel" loan?
yes, the gas going down is GREAT for consumer/buyers of gas/fuel. and it is great on one hand for people like me. And I agree that NOW is the time to stock up. but if it goes down too much farther the oilfield will crash, towns will disappear, thousands upon thousands of jobs will cease to exist, etc, etc, etc. it's happened before. and if it doesn't happen in the next couple of months, it will happen in the next couple of years under Dear Leader Chairman Maobama.

Economically speaking, the markets seek equilibrium. That is to say that the supply and demand (if graphed) should cross at some point and that is the point where people are willing to pay x price for a product, and the companies are willing or able to produce x amount of the product. The .gov has been artificially creating inflation for so long (and indeed hyper-inflation in recent years) to create the perception of a growing economy. Finally the natural forces of the market have essentially overpowered the government's ability to keep prices high, and now they must come down. People were running out of money, they couldn't afford $4.00 gas, so they quit buying. There may have been many other smaller causes as well, but most of those were "domino effect" results of the government f**king with the markets against the will of the market...its kinda like the government has been trying to pump 500 psi into a normal car tire and it was fairly obvious that it had to blow sometime.
When it is all done deflating, I'm quite positive the process will repeat itself because the government and sheeple have a remarkable inability to learn from mistakes.
Edit: On the other hand, is this really a "mistake" on the part of the government?...or just a part of their Master Plan for tyranny?...hmmm

Preparations, if you will.

Methinks that 'they' are deliberately trying to collapse the dollar, so they can pull the "a new currency will fix our problems" routine - thus giving us the Amero. I think after that they will force both the Euro and the Amero to also collapse, thus forcing us to use the global currency.
